What? Again ?
Common Data Service, the sophisticated and secure backbone that powers Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, has been renamed to Microsoft Dataverse. This low-code data platform is rapidly changing the way organizations around the world build apps and innovate business processes. A fresh name is just one part of a broader effort introduce the power of what Dataverse can do to individuals and organizations around the world.
Microsoft key Power Platform tools, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agent will be now generally available apps for use within Teams.
The Power tools available within Teams will give organizations the option of building native low-code applications, automated processes, and chatbots without professional devs.
Microsoft will be offering two services: Dataverse, the full CDS offering; and Dataverse for Teams, the essential subset of Dataverse capabilities included as a powerful, built-in data platform for millions of Teams users at no additional cost.
So, what’s the difference with Dataverse for Teams and just Dataverse? With Dataverse for Teams there is a limit in storage capacity, 1 million rows or 2 GB, Dataverse for Teams doesn’t have the full functionality of Dataverse, like non-relational storage (logs), Dataverse has API access and plugins and Dataverse for Teams does not. With Dataverse for Teams, access is restricted to just the Team owners, members and guests. If you compare with Dataverse, with Dataverse you have additional security features such as field level and hierarchical security, sharing and auditing. More differences are found in detail in Microsoft Docs. You can read about all the differences here.
